Explanation
(This amendment provides one million dollars towards the construction of a Fisher House on the grounds of the McGuire VA Medical Center. The Fisher House Foundation is a nationally recognized not-for-profit organization that allows military families to stay close to the hospitalized veteran during treatment at a VA Medical Center. The funding for construction of Virginia's Fisher House is provided by the Fisher House Foundation, state funding, and donations from the community. The amendment will match an expected two million dollars donation from the Fisher House Foundation and one million dollars in private donations. This amendment also provides dollars and positions for the operating costs of the Sitter Barfoot Veterans Care Center which is scheduled to open in FY 2007. Language is included to authorize the State Comptroller to approve an anticipatory loan for operating costs of the Sitter Barfoot Veterans Care Center pending reimbursement from federal and other nongeneral fund sources.)
