"Out of the amounts included for Plant Pest and Disease Control, $200,000 in the first year and $200,000 in the second year from the general fund is appropriated to support the eradication of hydrilla on Lake Gaston."
Explanation
(This amendment provides an additional general fund appropriation of $200,000 each year to the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' "Plant Pest and Disease Control" program to support the eradication of hydrilla on Lake Gaston. Hydrilla is an invasive plant species that interferes with recreation, destroys fish and wildlife habitats, and can severely impact water delivery systems. This amount would match North Carolina's appropriation for treatment of hydrilla and other noxious weeds on Lake Gaston. The federal government has appropriated $495,000 and the City of Virginia Beach $200,000 toward a $1,720,000 budget of the Lake Gaston Weed Control Council. Five affected counties in Virginia and North Carolina each contribute $40,000 to this effort.)
