Explanation
(This amendment provides a grant of $100,000 the first year from the general fund to the Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route, a proposed historic trail and heritage corridor leading from Newport, Rhode Island, to Yorktown, Virginia. The project is being developed in cooperation with the National Park Service, other states, local governments, and private organizations and individuals. The proposal requests funding for the Virginia segment of the route, beginning where the American and French armies crossed the Potomac River into Arlington County. The trail would then proceed through Alexandria, Mount Vernon, Fredericksburg, Hanover Courthouse, and Williamsburg to culminate in Yorktown. The funding includes the research and writing of a travel guidebook for heritage tourists to use when following the route.)
