Explanation
(This amendment provides five positions and $266,941 the first year and $236,358 the second year from the general fund for the creation of a satellite public defender office to serve Warren, Shenandoah, and Page counties. The office will be staffed by a senior assistant public defender, three assistant public defenders, and a secretary. Currently, the Indigent Defense Commission is having difficulty hiring and retaining part-time public defenders to serve these communities because of the high caseloads, which may have interfered with these part-time public defenders' private practices.)
