"I.  Out of the amounts appropriated for Historic Resource Management, $5,000,000 the first year from the general fund is provided to create a Civil War Historic Site Preservation Fund from which the department shall provide grants to private non-profit organizations to match federal funds and other monies for the preservation of endangered Civil War historic sites located in Virginia and listed in the "Report on the Nation's Civil War Battlefields," which was issued in 1993 by the National Park Service's Civil War Sites Advisory Commission.  Grants issued for this purpose by the department shall not exceed 50 percent of the acquisition costs for any property."


Explanation
(This amendment provides $5.0 million the first year from the general fund to create a Civil War Historic Preservation Fund from which grants may be made to private non-profit organizations to preserve Civil War battlefields and other Civil War historic sites located in Virginia that were listed among the sites included in a 1993 report by the National Park Service's Civil War Sites Advisory Commission titled, "Report on the Nation's Civil War Battlefields." No grant issued from this fund can exceed half of any site's purchase price.)
