"D.  Out of this appropriation, $40,000 the first year and $40,000 the second year from the general fund is provided for loan repayments for physician assistants who  choose to practice in medically underserved areas of the Commonwealth."

Explanation
(This amendment provides $40,000 from the general fund each year for the funding of a loan repayment program for physician assistants who choose to practice in a medically underserved area of the Commonwealth. A physician assistant scholarship program was created by the 1997 General Assembly, but no funds have ever been appropriated to support the scholarships. Loan repayment has been proven to be a more successful means of attracting and retaining physicians to medically underserved areas of the Commonwealth.)
