Explanation
(This amendment provides $511,000 the first year and $524,000 the second year from the general fund to continue a pilot initiative in Stafford County school division to fund a Mathematics Specialist in each of the elementary schools. The current grant funding is no longer available. The overall purpose for the Mathematics Specialists is to increase the mathematics achievement of all the students in their schools. To do so, they a.) collaborate with individual teachers through co-planning, co-teaching, and coaching; b.) assist administrative and instructional staff in interpreting data and designing approaches to improve student achievement and instruction; c.) ensure that the school curriculum is aligned with state and national standards and their school division's mathematics curriculum; d.) promote teacher's delivery and understanding of the school curriculum through collaborative long-range and short-range planning; e.) facilitate teacher's use of successful, research-based instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction for diverse learners such as those with limited English proficiency or disabilities; f.) work with parents/guardians and community leaders to foster continuing home / school / community partnerships focused on students' learning of mathematics; and g.) collaborate with administrators to provide leadership and vision for a school-wide mathematics program.)
