Explanation
(This amendment provides $250,000 the first year and $250,000 the second year from the general fund that will provide grants to school divisions that have at least 25 percent of the average daily membership identified as Limited-English-Proficient students and who receive English-as-a-Second-Language instruction. The grant funds will distributed through the English-as-a-Second Language Grant Program that will be established through House Bill 593. The ESL Grant Program will be administered by the State Board of Education. The Board will also be responsible for developing guidelines for the use of the funds. School divisions that receive grant funds will be required to submit a report to the Board specifying how the funds were used or intended to be used in the school division.)
