"$200,000 in the first year from the general fund shall be used to conduct the "Communication Infrastructure Project" which addresses the need for information documenting the availability and affordability of broadband telecommunication services required to enable regional security, economic development, telemedicine, education and overall quality of life initiatives for the towns, cities and counties located in the region covering Central Shenandoah, Northern Shenandoah Valley and Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commissions, as well as the counties of Orange, Madison and Culpeper.  The study will be a GAP study to include, but not be limited to, information on unmet consumer demand, redundancy and reliability, existing providers, types of broadband services, documentation on infrastructure and projects under development, cost of existing services, and demographics of the regions.  The Center for Rural Virginia shall manage this project."


Explanation
(This amendment provides $200,000 in the first year from the general fund to the Center for Rural Virginia to conduct a study of broadband availability and needs in the Shenandoah region of the Commonwealth.)
