Explanation
(This amendment provides an additional general fund appropriation of $100,000 in the first year to the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' "Plant Pest and Disease Control" program to support the eradication of hydrilla on Lake Gaston. Hydrilla is an invasive plant species that interferes with recreation, destroys fish and wildlife habitats, and can severely impact water delivery systems. The federal government has appropriated $495,000 and the City of Virginia Beach $200,000 toward a $1,720,000 budget of the Lake Gaston Weed Control Council. Five affected counties in Virginia and North Carolina each contribute $40,000 to this effort.)
