"G.  The Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court shall submit a report by December 1, 2006, to the Chairmen of the House Appropriations and Senate Finance Committees regarding the selection, training, oversight, accountability, and scheduling of magistrates.  This report shall also examine issues regarding the use of video-conferencing technology to provide magistrate services to the public where part-time, on-call magistrates may serve currently."


Explanation
(This amendment provides seven positions and $472,430 each year from the general fund to provide technical assistance services to judges, clerks, and magistrates. These positions would also be responsible for reviewing the operations of the current magistrate system and assessing the need for 24-hour service availability and feasibility of implementing a video conferencing system. Language requires the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court to report on the magistrate system to the Chairmen of the House Appropriations and Senate Finance Committees by December 1, 2006.)
