"A. Out of this appropriation, $3,225,000 from the general fund and $5,850,000 from nongeneral funds the first year and $5,000,000 from the general fund and $5,850,000 from nongeneral funds the second year is designated to build research capacity in biomedical research and biomaterials engineering.
B. George Mason University shall report to the Virginia Academic Research Corporation created under House Bill 935 on the use of these funds.  The Virginia Academic Research Corporation and George Mason University shall report progress made under this initiative to the Chairman of the House Appropriations and Senate Finance Committees by October 1, 2007.  The report shall include how the funds were used, the amount of federal and private funds that were leveraged, collaborative efforts in support of private industry, and recommendations for future investment."


Explanation
(This amendment provides general fund money to support biomedical and biomaterials research efforts at the university as part of the House Research Initiative. Funding will allow the college to leverage funding from federal and private sources. A companion amendment is found under item 250.)
