Explanation
(This amendment provides $100,000 each year to cover the operating costs of the Danville Welcome Center along Route 29. The existing welcome center building is owned by the Commonwealth but sits on property owned by the City of Danville. This language would require the City of Danville to convey the property to the Commonwealth prior to receipt of State funding. There is no State welcome center within 80 miles of Danville. House Bill 30 as introduced had proposed the one-time use of general funds for this purpose and this language is eliminated. If the property is conveyed to the Commonwealth it will be managed as part of the existing system of State Welcome Centers. Funding will be provided from vending revenues collected at the Welcome Centers which VDOT collects and dedicates to the operation of the Welcome Centers.)
