Explanation
(This amendment provides a general fund grant of $162,500 each year to support the continuing operations of the Science Museum of Western Virginia. The mission of the Science Museum of Virginia is to make science and technology accessible to all people through hands-on, interactive exhibits and by offering innovative programs both on-site and in the community. During calendar year 2002, the museum served over 160,000 visitors, of which more than 103,000 were schoolchildren. The general fund dollars provided by this amendment will provide $75,000 each year in continuing operational support and $87,500 each year to support the construction of a Watershed Gallery, including a 42-foot long river model with live specimens. The museum is constructing this exhibit to assist the region's teachers prepare students for newly implemented watershed Standards of Learning requirements.)
