Explanation(This amendment provides a $120,000 general fund grant the first year to the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation for the development of a marketing plan for the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District, which is the only congressionally designated national heritage area in Virginia. The Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District encompasses 14 Civil War battlefields and over 30 museums in an eight-county region, including the cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton, Waynesboro, and Winchester and the counties of Augusta, Clarke, Frederick, Highland, Page, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Warren. The general fund dollars included in this amendment will be matched by federal funds appropriated to the Foundation by Congress for federal fiscal year 2004.)
