Explanation
(This amendment provides additional general fund dollars to support the ongoing operations of existing public defender offices. The general fund dollars provided in the amendment will support a number of initiatives, including additional attorney and staff positions to ensure that there are sufficient staff to handle an increase in the number and types of cases being tried; the provision of Internet access for all public defender offices; the creation of satellite public defender offices in Front Royal and Wytheville; computer equipment upgrades; and offsetting cost increases imposed on the Public Defender Commission by other state agencies.)
