Explanation
(This amendment restores general fund monies to the Comprehensive Health Investment Project (CHIP) of Virginia. General fund appropriations to CHIP have been reduced over the past several years. While these funds have been made up with the use of federal Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) block grant funds, the introduced budget reduces TANF funds for CHIP by 10 percent. This increase in general funds will offset the reduction in TANF funds and enable CHIP of Virginia to draw down additional matching federal funds, thus preventing the elimination of services to 200 children currently being served and allowing CHIP to serve approximately 250 children on the waiting list for services.)
