Explanation
(This amendment increases funding for homeless shelter services for low-income families. Funds would be provided through the federal Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF). The TANF funds would be used to support 529 new shelter beds that have been added to serve homeless families in fiscal year 2004 at a cost of $1,000 per bed per year, and it would provide for increased support for the 4,974 beds in existing shelters of $200 per bed per year. Funding would also provide for expansion of emergency shelter and/or transitional housing to meet the increasing number of men, women and children in need of shelter, and to assist in the rehabilitation of aging shelter and transitional facilities.)
