Explanation
(This amendment restores language allowing the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services to contract with Riverside Regional Jail to house and treat persons involuntarily committed as sexually violent predators during fiscal year 2002. Funding is based on the assumption that the first person would be committed on January 1, 2002, six months after the effective date of Chapter 1024 of the 2000 Acts of Assembly which amended Title 37.1, Article 1.1, Chapter 2, Code of Virginia. Language is eliminated that would have postponed the effective date of the legislation to allow for renovation of a unit at Western State Hospital to house and treat these individuals. A companion amendment provides additional funding for the Office of the Attorney General for expenses associated with these commitments.)
