Explanation
(This amendment provides $270,000 from the general fund in the second year to create an Aquaculture Genetics and Breeding Technology Center at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. The center would recruit the nation's leading researchers for shellfish and marine finfish genetics and breeding. Initial efforts of the center would concentrate on oysters, hard clams and bay scallops. Funding of $116,000 is also provided for instructional equipment needs at VIMS.)
