Explanation
(This amendment strikes duplicative language regarding the opening dates for new prisons. This information is already provided to the General Assembly in the Governor's Executive Budget submitted on December 20 of each year.)

B.1. The amounts shown assume that the following new or renovated prisons will open on or before the following dates:

Fluvanna women's prison, August 1, 1997;

Sussex I prison, December 1, 1997;

Mecklenburg Correctional Center renovations, December 1, 1997;

Red Onion prison, July 1, 1998;

Sussex II prison, October 1, 1998; and,

Wallen's Ridge prison, October 1, 1998.

2. Of the amounts shown for the Fluvanna women's prison, both the dollars and position level are intended to accommodate a population of not more than 900 inmates. Staffing and funds for a population in excess of 900 inmates shall be requested by the Governor, as required, in future biennia.
