Explanation
(This amendment makes technical changes to a table detailing the number of positions and amount of funds allocated to each institution in the Department of Corrections. A companion amendment to Item 457 removes the operational start-up funds and positions for the Wallens Ridge Correctional Center due to a change in the opening date from July 1998 to October 1998.)

B.1. The amounts shown assume that the following new or renovated prisons will open on or before the following dates:

Fluvanna women's prison, August 1, 1997;

Sussex I prison, December 1, 1997;

Mecklenburg Correctional Center renovations, December 1, 1997;

Red Onion prison, July 1, 1998;

Sussex II prison, October 1, 1998; and,

Wallen's Ridge prison, October 1, 1998.

2. Of the amounts shown for the Fluvanna women's prison, both the dollars and position level are intended to accommodate a population of not more than 900 inmates. Staffing and funds for a population in excess of 900 inmates shall be requested by the Governor, as required, in future biennia.
