A. Out of this appropriation, $500,000 the first year from the general fund shall be set aside to provide financial relief to members of the Virginia National Guard and Virginia residents who are members of the reserves of the armed forces of the United States and who have been called to active duty after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and their respective families, to defray costs of food, housing, utilities, medical services, and other expenses.


B. Out of this appropriation, $500,000 the first year from the general fund is provided for the Virginia National Guard Foundation.


C. The Department of Military Affairs shall advise and provide assistance to the Department of Accounts in administering the $20,000 death benefit provided for certain members of the National Guard and United States military reserves killed in action in any armed conflict as of October 7, 2001, pursuant to § 44-93.1.B., Code of Virginia.
