Explanation

(This amendment requests pool funding to continue necessary updates to the agency's Aquatic Wildlife Conservation Center located at the Buller Fish Hatchery in Marion, Virginia. This building has been instrumental in pioneering techniques for the recovery of Virginia's freshwater mussels-including the nation's highest concentration of rare and endangered mussel species found in Southwest Virginia's Clinch River system. The facility has been deteriorating for years because of a shortage of capital improvement funds. Renovation of the facility is identified by the agency as a top priority in its 10-Year Mussel Recovery Plan for the Clinch River and Southwest Virginia.)
