"n. Education

1) $75,000,000 the first year and $75,000,000 the second year to Direct Aid for Public Education (197) to provide one-time grants of $1,500 for parents or guardians of each eligible school-age child to support qualifying enrichment activities.  The Department of Education shall establish guidelines for the program including: (i) criteria for qualifying expenses, which shall include but not be limited to tutoring, extended school day educational programs, academic day or summer camps, tuition at learning extension centers or colleges, tuition for learning pods, and educational, learning or study skills services, and (ii) criteria prioritizing the distribution of the funds for students whose family income is below 125 percent of the federal poverty level.  Of these funds, the Department may reserve up to 2.5 percent of the funds each year for the costs to administer the grant program."  



Explanation

(This amendment directs $75.0 million each year from federal American Rescue Plan resources (SLRF) to provide educational enrichment grants to parents and guardians of school age children.)
