"X. Notwithstanding the provisions of § 38.2-3419, any insurer proposing to issue individual or group accident and sickness insurance policies within the state of Virginia, including the state employee health insurance program, providing hospital, medical and surgical, or major medical coverage on an expense-incurred basis; each corporation providing individual or group accident and sickness subscription contracts; and each health maintenance organization providing a health care plan for health care services shall provide coverage under any such policy, contract, or plan for diagnosis and treatment of infertility and for standard fertility preservation procedures."

Explanation

(This amendment provides $50,000 from the general fund each year to reflect the increased expenditures for the state employee health insurance program pursuant to the passage of House Bill 480 which requires health insurers, including the state employee health insurance plan to cover the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. The amendment also included language mandating the benefit be provided by private insurers as well as the state employee health insurance plan.)
