Explanation

(This amendment provides $3.5 million from the general fund in fiscal year 2023 to assist the Nansemond Indian Nation with the purchase of 218 acres of unimproved land located in Suffolk, Virginia that is currently for sale on the private market. The property is within sight of Dumpling Island, the spiritual center of the Nansemond community. The original Chief’s House and Nansemond village from the John Smith map are located on this 218 acres currently for sale. The property offers river access for historical and cultural program development and would provide opportunities to protect archaeological resources.)
