"S. Out of this appropriation, $2,190,000 the first year and $1,640,000 the second year from the general fund are provided to support implementation of the Virginia Literacy Act, including materials for parents, microcredentials for reading specialists, literacy coaching staffing and training resources, pursuant to the passage of House Bill 319.

T. Out of this appropriation, $6,600,000 the second year from the general fund shall be provided to school divisions for professional development support, with priority given to the lowest-performing schools.  Any professional development provided using these funds shall be approved by the Department of Education."



Explanation

(This amendment provides $2.2 million the first year and $8.2 million the second year from the general fund to implement the provisions of House Bill 319, the Virginia Literacy Act. A companion amendment in Item 137 addresses other components of the bill.)
