Explanation
(This amendment provides funding to increase from $2.4 million to $9.3 million the cover the full start-up grants of $300,000 for each school that requested funding for implementing an extended school year program. To date, 31 schools in 15 school divisions have either received planning grants, start-up grants, or expressed interest. Schools in Bristol, Harrisonburg, Loudoun, Lynchburg, Manassas Park, Radford, and Richmond have received planning grants. Petersburg, Galax and Henrico have received start-up grants. Gloucester and Goochland turned down inadequate start-up grants. In addition, schools in Alexandria, Arlington, and Winchester have expressed interest.)
