Explanation
(This amendment adds language directing the Department of Social Services to develop and report on efforts to market Virginia's Information and Referral (I&R) System and 2-1-1 phone line for citizens requiring information on human services. Language also requires the Department to work with VITA and providers to plan and report on enhancements to the I&R webpage. The Virginia Information and Referral System has existed for almost a quarter of a century. Section 63.2-222 of the Code of Virginia established a statewide I&R system which is designed to collect and maintain accurate and complete resource data on a statewide basis. The I&R system: (1) collects and maintains accurate and complete resource data on a statewide basis; (2) links citizens needing human services with appropriate community resources to satisfy those needs; (3) assists in planning for human services delivery at the local, regional and state levels; and (4) provides information to assist decision-makers in allocating financial and other resources to respond to state and local human service priorities. Language is also added to existing budget language on Virginia’s I&R System so that it accurately references many of the specialized health and human resource information and referral services available in the Commonwealth. These are recommendations of the Virginia Commission on Youth.)
