Page 321, after line 16, insert:
"VVV.  Within the limits of this appropriation, the Department of Medical Assistance Services shall work with its contracted managed care organizations and fee-for-service health care providers to: (i) raise awareness among the providers who serve the Medicaid population about the health risks of chronic kidney disease; (ii) establish effective means of identifying patients with this condition; and (iii) develop strategies for improving the health status of these patients.  The Department shall work with the National Kidney Foundation to prepare and disseminate information for physicians and other health care providers regarding generally accepted standards of clinical care and the benefits of early identification of individuals at highest risk of chronic kidney disease."


Explanation
(This language amendment allows the Department of Medical Assistance Services to work with managed care organizations, health care providers, and the National Kidney Foundation to develop a plan for early identification and implementation of an appropriate clinical management program for individuals at highest risk for chronic kidney disease.)
