"H.  Out of the amounts appropriated for Chesapeake Bay Fisheries Management, $40,000 the second year from the general fund is provided for transfer to the Virginia Institute of Marine Science for continued research and control of the Veined Rapa Whelk, an invasive species of snail which readily consumes commercially valuable shellfish such as hard clams and oysters."

Explanation
(This amendment provides $40,000 from the general fund in the second year to VIMS for further study and control of the Veined Rapa Whelk, an invasive species of snail originally native to the Sea of Japan. This snail, recently discovered in the Chesapeake Bay, has no known predators in North America and primarily consumes commercially valuable shellfish. VIMS operates a bounty program to study and control the species and is working with seafood companies to establish a market for the whelk.)
