Explanation
(This amendment provides an additional $1,381,582 from the general fund in the second year to continue moving the University towards full funding of the base adequacy guidelines. Without these additional funds, preliminary estimates by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia indicate that Longwood University will continue to be funded below 85 percent of the guidelines in FY 2006. Language has been added to clarify the General Assembly's intention that the institution should place a priority on increasing the number of students graduating with degrees, particularly in fields, such as nursing and education, where the Commonwealth faces critical workforce shortages.)
