Language Page 482, after line 18, insert:"Out of the amounts for Financial Assistance for Cultural and Artistic Affairs, $75,000 the second year from the general fund is provided to Endview Plantation."
Explanation(This amendment provides a grant of $75,000 from the general fund the second year to support the continuing capital improvements to the Endview Plantation historic site. Endview Plantation was originally built in the mid-eighteenth century and was sold to the City of Newport News by the plantation's heirs in the mid-1970s. Archeologists discovered the brickwork pattern of a kitchen outbuilding at the Endview Plantation. The foundation of the kitchen includes a brick chimney wall. The reconstruction and restoration of the kitchen will help recreate the historic landscape of this structure, and it will be utilized as an important component of living history interpretation to include African-American historical interpretation tracing the transition from slavery to contraband to freedom.)
