Explanation
(This amendment restores general fund support for the position of state archaeologist within the Department of Historic Resources (DHR). At one time, all functions assigned to DHR were the responsibility of the state archaeologist, and from time to time efforts have been made to seek funding for the recreation of this position. If this amendment were adopted, DHR could resume a leadership role in promoting the importance of archaeological resources, better raise funds for special projects, and encourage better stewardship of local, state, and privately controlled archaeological resources. The restoration of this position has been the primary focus of the archaeological community for the past decade.)
