"Of the amounts appropriated to the Dam Maintenance, Repair, and Rehabilitation Fund, $860,000 shall be used to address soil and water conservation district-owned dams located on the South River, which do not currently meet dam safety regulations.  The amount appropriated for the repair and rehabilitation of these dams represents the Commonwealth's share of the funding necessary to improve these dams."

Explanation
(This amendment provides $860,000 from the general fund in the second year for the repair and rehabilitation of soil and water conservation district-owned dams located on the South River in Augusta County. Currently, these four district-owned dams do not meet dam safety regulations. The amount proposed in the amendment represents 35 percent of the costs of repairing and rehabilitating these structures, which were originally constructed as part of a federal small watershed flood control program. The federal government will provide the remaining 65 percent of the funding necessary to repair and rehabilitate these dams. Securing funding for this initiative was a top priority of the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.)
