"M.  Out of the amounts appropriated for Land Stabilization and Conservation, $175,000 in the second year from the general fund is provided to the County of Mathews for use as a match for the costs of an Army Corps of Engineers study examining the use of dredge materials for enlarging the land area of New Point Island, a project that would provide criticial natural habitat and recreational opportunties on the Chesapeake Bay."

Explanation
(This amendment provides $175,000 from the general fund in the second year to the County of Mathews and represents the state's matching share of the costs of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers study of New Point Island at the juncture of the Chesapeake and Mobjack Bays. Upon construction, this island could provide badly needed wildlife habitat as well as public recreational access to the Chesapeake Bay. Without stabilization of the surrounding shoreline, the historic lighthouse on the island, which is listed on the Virginia and National Historic Registers will be destroyed by the elements. This project is a joint venture between the county and the Department of Conservation and Recreation.)
