Explanation
(This amendment increases funding for the base case fee for local Medical Examiners from $50 to $150 as recommended by the Board of Health. The case rate fee has not been increased since 1982. Local Medical Examiners are on call 24 hours per day and seven days per week to conduct local death investigations. The number of local Medical Examiners has decreased from 430 in 1994 to 283 in 2004, due to the increased workload and low reimbursement fee.)
