Explanation
(This amendment adds funds to expand the existing Health Zones program operated by Senior Connections, the Capital Area Agency on Aging. The organization is in its second year of operating one of the five national pilots being funded with federal funds. Older African Americans are at a higher risk of diabetes, heart disease and other health ailments due to obesity. Through on site training of senior citizens by Senior Connections, in their place of worship, the risk of disease and possible hospitalization and institutionalization is decreased by change of diet and better nutrition. Ongoing education is conducted by trained faith-based health advocates in the communities.)
