Explanation
(This amendment increases funding to the Department of Health for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to hire an additional autopsy technician position in the Western District office. The Western District is experiencing an increase in cases, particularly drug abuse cases. Cases have increased from 673 in 2001 to 770 in 2003. The additional technician will relieve the current staff of two technicians from mandatory overtime which creates problems with morgue safety, stress, fatigue, and absenteeism. Temporary staffing has not been successful due to the complexity of the work and issues related to safety, confidentiality and evidence.)
