Explanation
(This amendment reduces the general funds by $119,041 in the first year and $57,752 in the second year due to a reduction in the number of students attending two Governor's schools. The introduced budget included 65 funded slots for the Massanutten Governor’s School in fiscal year 2005. The Department of Education recently confirmed that the Massanutten program does not plan to open until fiscal year 2006. This results in a savings of $119,041 in fiscal year 2005. In addition, the Madison, Culpeper, and Winchester school divisions have decided not to join the Blue Ridge Governor’s School. These school divisions are part of the planning process for a Governor’s School proposed for the northwest region of Virginia. This results in a savings of $57,752 in fiscal year 2006.)
